last wed, fu woke up especially early in the morning before the sun rose. I didnt think anything out of it and we proceeded with our routine, leaving our place at 7.30am to make our way to my mil's place. At mil's place, I saw ky taking fu's temperature and he was running a slight fever at 37.6degrees. As he looked fine otherwise, we sent him to school despite the fact that i saw him 扁嘴on the way to the lift lobby.
When i returned to my mil's place over lunch to express milk, I saw fu lying on the sofa, which is very unlike his usual self. His lips and cheeks were all red. I went to him, touched his forehead. Gosh, it was burning. Took his temperature and it read 39.2degrees. Oh my... i quickly gobbled up my lunch, expressed milk and brought him to see dr bel. Dr Bel mentioned to expect cough to get worse over the next few days. Unwilling to let fu stand/walk with his fever, I carried my 16.7kg boy all the way from city hall MRT to my mil's. Then, I realised the meaning of the song "he aint heavy, he's my brother (son)".
That was 6 days ago. Fu's fever took flared up reaching 40.1 degrees on two nights. His fever is gone now but his cough is still there. Fortunately he's not wheezing (something which dr bel asked me to look out for).
Yesterday, we brought tingting to see the cardiologist (a followup for her PDA). When Dr Tan was listening and scanning for her, I could feel my heart rate getting faster. It was a relief when Dr Tan said that her PDA had closed. However, there's a little hole at the top of her heart which he termed "ASD" which he said is not something to be concerned about as it will not affect her development nor her immunity. He's giving it a chance to close naturally so we'll have to see him again 6 months later.
I went back to work in the afternoon. When I returned from work, my mil asked me to feel if tingting is "hot". I took the ear thermometer to take her temperature. Sigh.... she's having a fever. 38.3degrees. Ting had caught her brother's virus despite our efforts to separate them.
ky and I brought ting to see dr bel today. It's the first time they meet each other. Dr bel, referring to my comment last wed that ting looks exactly like fu, said "no lah, she doesnt look exactly like her brother, her features are finer." She touched her cheeks and said smilingly that those parts look the same though.
Dr bel confirmed that ting caught fu's virus. Due to her age, we cant give her anything to treat her cough. Just like when I brought fu to her, she said ting's cough was just starting and it will get worse over the next few days. Being a premie, her lungs are weaker thus more susceptable to wheezing. We have to watch out for that and if she wheezes, we'll have to put her on a nubilizer, something which none of us in the family had tried.
I hope ting defies the odds this time again...
hai... just another disadvantage of not being the first child of the family..
