Today we brought ting to Dr Belinda for her second Prevnar jab.
I was looking forward to this day as all of ting’s previous jabs were done by SGH, assessment done by pediatrician but jabs done by nurses. All the time when jabs were taken there I was thinking how nice it’ll be if it were administered by Dr Belinda. I imagine it to be quite a scary experience for ting when she received her jab in SGH. She got placed on a bed facing scary spotlights, one nurse will prepare the needles and the other will hold on to her thigh. It’s all just too “clinical” almost as if you were in a laboratory.
So today, there was almost no waiting time! The trick is to get the 2pm appointment, first one after lunch. ;)
Ting tipped the scale at 9.315kg and measures 68.3cm in length. (corrected age: 7 months, uncorrected: 9.5months)
As always, Dr Bel plots ting’s statistics on the chart (something never done in SGH). She told me she’s not going to use her corrected age as even with her uncorrected age she’s still “on top”. :) I was doubtful her length would do as well as her weight but yeah! Both length and weight ARE on top.
She went on to ask us questions (amongst other talk):
Dr B: Does she turn to her stomach?
Ky: yes
Dr B: Does she turn back?
Ky: err no.
Me: YES! She does!
Dr B: Does she grab things?
Both: yes.
Dr B: Does she transfer things from one hand to the other?
We looked at each other… err…
Me: I think so :P
Dr B: Does her brother like her?
Me: depending on his mood
Dr B: Does she like her brother?
Me: Yes! He’s her favourite person
Dr B: What does she eat?
Me: Brown rice paste and some cereals.
Dr B: Any fruits?
Me: Yes some apples and pear
Dr B: Any vegetables?
Me: er not yet.. (hmm.. I think it’s probably a suggestion that we should start doing so)
Dr B: What does she do in the day?
Both: huh?....
Hehe.. she went on the assess her. She commented that all of our children (including those of my sisters) are chubby when they’re small. Commented about ting’s beautiful skin and said she doesnt hear any murmur which is a good sign that the ASD might had already closed (heart review is in July).
So here comes the jab.
Dr B: you’re taking this early cos of her brother right?
Me: ya
Dr B (to ting): this is going to be painful, I’m sorry ok? But it’s not me, it’s your mummy and daddy.
Me: NO! It’s her brother!! (fu was busy playing outside the room)
Me: So we should get our earplugs ready!
I cradled fed Ting. Susan held ting’s thigh, and I heard them talking
Susan: wah very fat
Dr Bel: yah.. must poke higher..
So, the act was done. It was a lot better than the last one which was done in SGH. She did cry, kindof a complain cry, unlike her protesting screams the last time.
I’m happy :) I love Ralph and Rachel and Dr Belinda too :)
Next jab will be after Ting’s birthday.
