my baobeis are sick!

just when i had the idea of going green and taking the NE line all the way to clarke quay's central from punggol on saturday, it started to pour. Then fu started to run a what dr bel will call a "moderate fever". So we called off the idea and stayed home..

Fu's cough turned pretty bad that night and we gave him a dose of ventolin in the evening followed by flixotide before he slept. It seemed to work miracles and he was almost completely fine on Sunday.

unfortunately ting caught the bug and she was literally coughing through the night on sunday night/monday morning. i was kept awake by her persistent coughing and tried to carry her as much as possible as she seemed to feel better in an upright position.

Prior to that, on sunday evening i was wondering aloud to ky whether dr bel will prescribe any med if we bring ting to see her. ky, knowing dr bel too well said, "ha! dr bel won't give any med. or she'll prob ask you whether you want to give her med." So ky didnt seem keen to bring ting to dr bel, but seeing her cough nonstop at night, he changed his mind, "i think we should bring her to see doc tomo."

I always knew what med to give fu when he's sick, but when ting's sick, i feel lost. Fu was fortunate that he didnt fall sick in his first year or so cos there were no other kids who would spread the bugs to him, poor ting had fallen sick a couple of times, just by being the younger sibling. So as a result of the experience/lack of experience with fu, I didnt know what med I could give ting or whether i should just let nature run it's course..

So there we were at dr bel's clinic. She commented that ting sits really well and proceeded to listen to her. Her diagnosis was bronchitis and commented that she's wheezing a little. Then came her trademark question, "so what do you want to do?" I asked her back whether I should do anything. She said it's up to me as she's not bad to the extent that she'll say that she must be treated. I asked again on what sort of treatment it would be if I'd like to cos she coughs really badly at night.

The treatment is the same as for fu, however, it'll be just one puff of flixotide instead of two. So we went back without taking any med since we'll use fu's. Now, at least i have the idea of what options i have if ting were to cough again.

I was feeling really lethargic when i was at the clinic. For no reason, i started to run a fever that night. I took some Paracetamol and went to sleep, wearing cotton long sleeves over my tee, long slacks and socks.. Ting didnt cough till 5am in the morning. Phlegmy cough. She'd cough 5 times, turn her head, cough another 5 times, turn her head, cough again, turn and.. you get the idea. It went on and on and i decided to puff her with flixotide.

She's still coughing now but i think it'll take a week or so for the cough to completely subside..
