the "rash decision"

I've been asked what "rash decision" I was referring to in the facebook status. Here's goes the story..

two fridays ago (the last day of term break), the priciple of school C called me. I never like phonecalls from the school (not that I receive them often), hmmm.. if you're a parent you'll probably know what I dont like phonecalls from the school lah... lazy to elaborate.. :P

ok... back to the phonecall. With a very serious tone (the principal is usually serious la), she told me that the school's lease has expired, in fact, it had expired in August. They are currently on a monthly extension and they managed to do so till the end of the year. The landlord had increased their rental, again, and the school's owner had decided not to continue running the school and they are currently looking for a buyer. If they can't find a buyer, the school may cease operation. They had also sent a letter to all parents informing this together with the term 4 school fees. She said she's calling the parents so that we will not get a shock when we receive the letter and that we can also decide to send our child for a trial class starting term 4.

My reaction when I heard that was... :S it's already Friday (lunch time) and Monday is the start of term 4, how would I be able to secure a place for a trial? Anyway, I thanked her for the call and we hung up.

On Saturday, I contacted a nursery teacher (teacher S) that I knew *wink* and was glad they have a place for fu. I was worried that fu will not welcome the change as he obviously had gotten used to his school. Surprisingly when I suggested that to fu, he was ok (he was not roaring and jumping with excitement but at least there was no resistance). To help get his prepared for this hasty change, we deliberately made a drive to the school to orientate him. We were also lucky that we had already applied for leave on Monday as mil had to pray for gmil so we could be present to induct him for his first day at School SL.

Monday, we were a little late, teacher S came to welcome him. It took him a little while to get down to the floor with the other children (he pulled me along), but after a while when he did so, I informed him that we'll be leaving and he bidded goodbye to me, ky and tingting (in that order). We left the school feeling quite relieved.

So things seemed to get off to a good start. I called School C to inform them that I had sent fu to another school for trial. Tuesday, School C called to ask if everything is ok for fu. "Yes, so far so good," I replied. The admin assistant continued, "oh, we wanted to check how he is as fu has a part to play in the school's year end concert". Awww.... I suddenly felt my stomach turn. The memories of last year's school concert (his first) all flashed back but i thought it'd be utterly silly to pull him back just for the sake of a concert.

On the way to mil's place with ky in the evening, ky and i discussed about this and kindof agreed that it's a rational decision to pull him out due to the uncertainties of the school. I also consulted another teacher A I know and she endorsed on our decision. ky said that even if there's a buyer, chances are that the way the school runs will change.

Wed, ky sent fu to school, there was some resistance from fu to let ky leave for work. In the evening, at mil's place, fu mentioned the names of his best friends at play.. "isabel, rene, alexander, elrond, joash, joshua cheng.." that made my stomach turn again. When we ask him whether he likes his new school, his replies are random, sometimes yes, sometimes no. I contacted teacher A to request for a meeting on Friday after their school hours with her principle and fu's form teacher to understand how fu is there.

Friday, met the principal and teachers, satisfied. Yes, I think we'll stick to SL.
