My little girl, who weighed only 1.495kg at birth, is now 11.5kg! Mil showed me pictures of her children when they were young and I was WORRIED that ting will become like her gugu! She has got to be the chubbiest girl I’ve ever known. Haha :X
My worry is not unfounded. Ting has been putting on recently. She’ll throw a tantrum if she doesn’t get to eat what she asks to eat. Sometimes pointing to my gmil’s crackers or oreo cookies right after her meal. Being in a family with multiple meal times does not help. She will ask for food whenever someone’s having dinner. We all have different meal times and you can imagine how many times she will run to the table and demands for her food!
However, I recently discovered that she likes to eat vegetables! So now, whenever she asks for food when I’m having dinner, I will give her some vegetables which will keep her occupied for a few minutes before she comes running to the table for more.
Last night, we were having dinner at home. Ting, as usual was asking for vegetables..
Ting: want ehtables… nOW!
Me: hmm? That’s not the way to ask. Say “May I (may i) have some (have some) vegetables (ehtables) please mummy (please mummy). Ok.
Ting: Thanks.
Me: you’re welcome!
After a few minutes….
Ting: want ehtables… nOW!
Me: hmm? That’s not the way to ask. Say “May I (may i) have some (have some) vegetables (ehtables) please mummy (please mummy). Ok.
Ting: Thanks.
Me: you’re welcome!
A few minutes later… (Wow.. now, I’m really liking the cut and paste commands of the computer!)
Ting: want ehtables… nOW!
Me: hmm? That’s not the way to ask. Say “May I (may i) have some (have some) vegetables (ehtables) please mummy (please mummy). Ok.
Ting: Thanks.
Me: you’re welcome!
Then..
Ting: want ehtables…. NOW!
Me: hmm? How should you ask?
Fu: may I (may i) have some (have some) vegetables (ehtables) please mummy (please mummy)?
Me: (pleased) ok!
Ting: thank you
Me: you’re welcome!
Fu: (speaking in his mesmerizing high pitched gentle tone to her sister) ting? You like vegetables (his eyes widened, nodding his head), gorgor give you ok (nodding more vigorously now)?
Ting of cos agreed. Wasn’t fu sweet? I thought it was sweet of her brother to do that.. but I, his mother, knows him too well! He wanted to get rid of his vegetables in his bowl!
Soon, fu finished his dinner and left the table.
Ting: (looked at me)…. Have.. ehtables please mummy?
Me: good job! (repeats the full sentence) May I have some vegetables please, mummy?
Ting: nodded
What a delightful dinner!

How about fruits? She likes? Both fruits and veg have got fibre which not only aid digestion, it keeps them full too.
