What did you eat during recess today?

This question became a question that Fu had and has to answer on every school day since 4th Jan. 80% of the time, the answer would be "chicken rice", the other 20% of the time we'll get answers like jelly or pancake and yakult. Naturally as I received him from his school bus today, I asked him the same question.

Me: what did you eat today?
Fu: nothing!
Me: huh? How come?
Fu: cos of this! *pulled a green pen out from his pocket*
Me: you spent all your pocket money on this pen? How much is it?
Fu: $1.55!
Me: That's more than your pocket money!
Fu: never mind
Me: The Aunty said never mind?
Fu: She didn't say anything.
Me: Are you sure?... Why did you buy the pen?
Fu: It's for gugu. I didn't buy her anything for her birthday.

Aww.. I was quite moved that he actually gave up his pocket money for the day to buy a gift for his gugu. We later told him that if he wants to buy something we can buy it together over the weekend or he can at least bring some snacks to school. We also made him pay the balance of 5cents to the book shopkeeper.

So was gugu moved? I think she may not even be aware of what happened. Fu later told his daddy that he bought the pen for himself and it had been since lying in his blue stationary box... What an anti-climax!
